Collections

The paintings that form the starting point of this collection were initially conceived as surfaces to be inhabited rather than mere images to be contemplated. From this dual purpose arose a desire to explore the possibilities of tapestry. Noémi Langlois-Meurinne has found in textiles a new means of expression for her minimalist compositions and her masterful use of muted color schemes.

The use of a vocabulary of elemental forms — windows, interstices, corners — gives rise to a poetics of space that echoes that developed by Gaston Bachelard.
The work of Noémi Langlois-Meurinne invites contemplation, set apart from chaos. It evokes the idea of shelter, as a serene refuge, a haven withdrawn from view. The lines are never quite straight ; the surfaces retain traces of the hand in the act of drawing. Imperfection is not an error but a language. The material is hollowed out and carved, then partially recomposed to render perceptible what unfolds in the background. Through these openings, the beauty of shadow comes to the surface, offering a moment of respite and the possibility of escape.
