Ratures & Artefacts

Collections

“What if we retained only what does not belong in the image, what has appeared there through some inexplicable accident?”Starting from this idea, Marcel Zelmanovitch explores in Ratures & Artefacts what escapes control: accidents, traces, imperfections, and forms that emerge where they were never expected. In this series of drawings translated into rug-paintings, the artefact becomes a language in its own right, revealing the unknown and the untamed. For this exhibition, the artist also places material at the heart of his work. Mohair and silk, chosen for their softness, natural sheen, and ability to capture light, give the works a presence that is both tactile and visual. The contrast between the precision of craftsmanship and the freedom of the line gives rise to pieces with a dual reading, at once intimate and architectural, where material enters into dialogue with drawing. An exhibition to be seen and felt.

Gesture and Material
Mohair and silk lie at the heart of Ratures & Artefacts. Chosen for their softness and natural sheen, these exceptional fibres bring depth and light to each piece.Between the precision of hand-knotting and the freedom of the line, the works unfold through a subtle tension between control and accident, texture and drawing.
